With the participation of 25 Egyptian universities “Tanta Engineering” students won first and second place in the “Smart Cities” competition
Tanta University announced in a statement that environmental architecture students at the Faculty of Engineering won first place in the field of smart buildings, and computer engineering students at the Faculty of Engineering won second place in the smart gardens competition in the first Egyptian “hackathon” competition for “smart cities,” hosted by Benha University
The “Hackathon” activities were held from March 24 to 26, under the patronage of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education, Benha University, and Amazon Web Services
For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Zaki, President of Tanta University, congratulated the winning students, explaining that they will be honored by Tanta University, stressing Tanta University’s support for its students in all specializations in line with achieving the goals of Egypt’s Vision 2030, especially in the field of digital transformation and the shift towards a digital economy. Dr. Zaki added, the team's students are scheduled to be given a great opportunity to market their innovations and implement prototypes of their innovative solutions in the field of smart buildings in the New Administrative Capital
Dr. Marwa Kamar El-Dawla, coordinator of the Environmental Architecture Engineering Program at the Faculty of Engineering, Tanta University, explained that the team of environmental architecture students at the Faculty of Engineering included 5 students and was able to win first place in the field of smart buildings after a strong competition with 40 teams at the level of 25 Egyptian public, private and private universities
Dr. Marwa added that the Environmental Architecture Team at the College of Engineering was able to win an additional award in the field of predictive analytics outside the ten specified paths
For their part, the winning students extended their thanks and appreciation to the administration of Tanta University and the faculty members of the Faculty of Engineering, led by Dr. Ahmed Nasr, Acting Dean of the Faculty, and the University Science Club for their sound guidance during the preparation of the competition: Dr. Mai Wahba and Dr. Bahaa Al-Boushi, engineer Mina Medhat, and engineer Mona Rizk
It is noteworthy that the hackathon activities included 10 areas: smart buildings, smart facilities, smart parks, smart transportation and traffic, smart hospitals, smart recycling, smart monitoring, smart energy, smart management, and smart schools and universities
